Mathew Street Festival is Europe’s biggest free music festival event and comes to the streets of Liverpool city centre again this late August Bank Holiday Weekend. This hugely successful street festival celebrates its seventeenth year.
With the expansion of the Mathew Street Festival to include the Fringe there will be much larger number of venues involved in the 2009 experience and the Directory of Liverpool are hoping to attend for their first time this year.
How to get to the Mathew Street Festival
Wherever you are travelling from you need to arrive at Liverpool Lime Street Train Station. Be aware that the last trains out of Lime Street all run shortly after 11.30pm so check here to make sure you don’t get left behind.
What to expect when you get to Mathew Street
The Mathew Street festival outside stage performances run from 11am until 6pm on both days. Over the Bank Holiday weekend the six outdoor stages will see music from over ninety bands with visitors from more than fifteen different countries.
You can get a full run down of performances at the Mathew Street Festival What’s On page.

I have to say I agree with your views on the .pdf John.
Maybe they should consider a more friendly and eco-friendly printable version.
However – hopefully this will not stop your enjoyment of the festival.
Come back and let us know what you enjoyed and maybe send us a picture or two.
Have a great bank holiday weekend.

Another brilliant weekend. Thank you to all involved and Liverpool Council
Dear Mathew Street Festival people,
Once again, the Festival Guide PDF is a nightmare to read. In particular, having white text on a pale background is difficult enough on-screen – especially page 2 (which is labelled 4 and 5 for some reason)and page 7 (labelled 24 and 25); red text on a black background is no better. And it’s much worse on paper.
Conversely, the upside down text on pages 9, 10 and 11 are readable on paper but not on-screen.
The map (labelled 14) on page 5 is another ordeal. Why have three stages (Tunnel, Water St., Exchange St.) coloured red/pink/orange? What’s wrong with using green and blue for two of them? Again, this is much worse on paper. And grey on a grey background (Williamson Sq.) beggars belief.
I have normal vision and I find it difficult. How anyone with visual problems – especially those with colour blindness – would fare doesn’t bear thinking about.
And, to add insult to injury for those of us who print it at home rather than at work, the easiest thing to see is the colour cartridge emptying.
Regards,
John Haggerty
