liverpool-city-councilLiverpool Daily Post reports that Liverpool City Council is give the city’s markets a cash boost. One quarter of a million pounds is to be invested into Liverpool’s markets and there is even talk of increasing trading days which may possibly include a Sunday market day. The cash injection comes as a result of market trade suffering a 15% decline ‘during the credit crunch’.


 


Transport News

sunday-heraldSunday Herald reports that Allied taxi group wins high court ruling which allows it to sell taxis in Manchester, London and Liverpool. This is an important deal for Allied and they have fought for two years to win the case. The overall market is worth up to £40 million and Allied are the latest contender to want their share.


Government pledges £17 million to improve Liverpool’s Hall Lane ‘Gateway’

Following on from the £100 million to be spent on the ‘electrification’ of the Liverpool to Manchester railway in last week’s Business News Today the Government are hoping to reduce the extensive congestion on Liverpool’s roads.

Over two million pounds has already been spent trying to ease the traffic problems but further investment is desperately needed to form an effective solution.


po-logoP&O Ferries warns it may cut investment in the UK the Telegraph reports. 
The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) has backdating its rates bills right to April 2005 leaving P&O with additional costs which may may be as much as £200 million, approximately £600,000 of which is owed from the Liverpool business.
