So I switched off Radio 2, which I use simply to drown out background irritation whilst working!
Oh wow…
Never really listened to this sort of stuff before but this guy has a stunning voice. The music is beautiful and the harmonies refreshing.
Hey listen to the expert!
No. I know little or, actually, nothing about acoustic music but after listening to this I am definitely willing to learn.
It drove away the intense stress-head I suffer throughout every day right now and I have saved it to my desktop to remind myself that life is simply too short not to take time out and appreciate the better things now and again.
I give you T J and Murphy:
About T J and Murphy
TJ and Murphy formed in June 07.
The initial idea was to get together as friends and write some acoustic music, in short have a jam-the outcome proved much different.
The lads had been in a band together in their early teens. This band dismembered only a few months after it started; this was the point their individual musical journeys began.
They would not be in contact for some eight years, until a couple of fait meetings, which would in turn lead them to embarking on a busking trip across Europe. It was there a creative musical spark was triggered; and a strong song writing partnership was forged.
TJ describes it as a “happy accident”.
Whatever it was it was the start of an incredible musical journey.
On returning home work started on their highly acclaimed 14 track debut album ‘Weary nights’, whilst gigging extensively around the UK. In two years remarkable progress has been made, this has not gone unnoticed by press and radio. Many interviews and articles have been printed; live sets performed on BBC Radio Merseyside, BBC Cambridge, Radio Cheshire, Chorley, and Pembrokeshire to name a few.
The music even spread as far as Rockland Radio (New York). Playing Support slots for top acoustic musicians such as Nick Harper and Stephen Fretwell. The music from TJ and Murphy is spreading like wildfire, winning a strong fan base along the way and gaining recognition as a must see live act. Recently performing two sell out shows at Bluecoat Performance Space and View 2 Gallery Liverpool .
TJ and Murphy are strong supporters of the Linda McCartney Centre and Love, Hope and Strength Foundation. In April 09 they played a sell out gig raising over a £1000 for the Linda McCartney Centre.
So what’s next?
The lads have begun work on their second album. Also recruiting some of Liverpool’s finest musicians to give the new album a different dynamic, while closely holding on to their acoustic roots. The band includes Ted Guy (slide & harmonica) Jake Foord (bass) and Mark Byrne (drums).
With the ever-increasing fan base there will be some theatre shows coming up including The Gladstone Theatre (Port Sunlight) and Pacific Road Arts Theatre, where they have been invited to play the prestigious International Guitar Festival. It seems there is no stage too big or too small for TJ and Murphy.
What a difference a jam can make!

T.J. and Murphy played a short set of 8 songs in all, including the beautiful ”Johanna Love”, ”Island Of The Saints”, ”Not Enough”, and ”Old Dog”, which featured some of the best acoustic guitar playing I’ve ever heard. The songs of T.J. & Murphy are so melodic and the lyrics so beautiful that their music can best be described as music for the soul. Several times I closed my eyes and was taken away to another place filled with these heavenly harmonies and touching lyrics.
Definitely an act worth seeing and their debut cd ”Weary Nights” is available for purchase from http://www.myspace.com/thomasjosephandmurphy

The highly acclaimed duo Thomas-Joseph and Murphy who have been causing such a stir on the acoustic music scene. After a few notes during their warm-up it’s easy to see why – they are outstanding players and sing like Seraphim. Playing harmonious guitars and creating angelic melodies appeared to come easily and held the crowd in enrapt appreciation. It was like walking past a beautiful girl and having her smiling at you – it sent your heart aflutter and re-enforced your faith in mankind…or at least the chance of getting some tonight! If you get the chance to listen to Thomas-Joseph and Murphy, in silence and without prejudice – sublime. Paul Reay
