Liverpool Irish Festival 2009 runs at various venues right across Liverpool from 16th October until the 1st November.
Liverpool’s connections to Ireland go way back in history. The 19th century saw Liverpool home to the centre of Irish Immigration. With an approximate 25 % of Liverpool’s population estimated to be of Irish decent by the middle of the 19th centry many people who come from Liverpool or have relatives from the area will more than likely find some Irish blood in their family. I know I certainly have!
So we see Liverpool celebrate its seventh year with a host of music, art, dance, heritage and cultural events hosted at a variety of venues across the region.
Some of the highlights include the Chapter and Verse Literature Festival at the Bluecoat, Battle of the Bands at The Pilgrim and a fantastic Irish Ceili and Supper at St Michael’s Irish Centre.
