Liverpool was famously and proudly named the European Capital of Culture for 2008, part of this nomination came down to the impact that the city is making in ensuring that it is doing its utmost to be green and the work being carried out in support of the local environment.
As part of the green initiative, Liverpool has been expanding its waste disposal practices to increase the percentage of recycling and reuse, as shown by the many recycling centres available in the city.

Otterspool Household Waste Recycling Centre
Otterspool Household Waste Recycling Centre accepts all sorts of waste that can be recycled, including items such as car batteries, cardboard and paper, rubble, garden waste, metals, textiles and more.

Formby Household Waste Recycling Centre
Formby is another recycling centre very much in the same size and style of Otterspool, but with slightly different items accepted for recycling.
Formby accepts garden waste, rubble, metals and textiles and also accepts furniture, electrical items and engine oil.

Huyton Household Waste Recycling Centre
Huyton Household Waste Recycling Centre accepts all kinds of items for recycling such as batteries, cardboard, electrical items and equipment, energy saving lightbulbs, engine oil, flourescent tubes, garden waste and much more.
Huyton Recycling Centre also accepts fridges and freezers. The disposal of asbestos is also accepted but only by appointment and with strict health and safety guidelines followed.

Kirkby Househld Waste Recycling Centre
The Kirkby Recycling Centre is smaller than others in Liverpool and because of this does not accept as many different items for recycling.
However Kirkby does accept car batteries, cardboard, electrical items, engine oil, garden waste, paper, furniture, rubble, metals, textiles, timber and glass among others.
