A whole festival of folk, all in one night! The Imagined Village returns featuring Grammy Award winning Simon Emmerson, Martin Carthy, Eliza Carthy and Chris Wood backed by a band featuring Johnny Kalsi, Ali Friend, Andy Gangadeen, Simon Richmond, Sheema Mukherjee and Barney Morse Brown.
Englishness is the final frontier of world music!
The Imagined Village is a stunning project interweaving traditional folk with the sounds and voices of today’s multicultural England. Fiddles and squeezebox sit easily alongside electronica and ambient effects.
Grammy Award winning musician and producer Simon Emmerson, no stranger to eclectic fusions, is joined by members of world beat troupe Transglobal Underground and live electronic band, The Bays with folks’ finest, Martin Carthy, Eliza Carthy and Chris Wood.
This thrilling show, new for 2010, builds on it’s successful debut at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall in November in 2007, that went on to take festivals by storm around the UK and Europe in the summers of 2008 and 2009. A new album is launched in January 2010 to accompany the show.
“It’s mischievous and tender, wry and wise, sad and surreal, but a folk that could only have been made in the 21st century” Observer Music Magazine
“A swirling, English ceilidh, stitched together by electric guitar and Indian drums and angry lyrics about current rural life, has righteous fire.” The Independent
