As many of you know, I have dreamed of climbing Kilimanjaro since I was a child. Something about that mountain captured my imagination. That and the fact that it was in every boys comic book story about Africa; especially my favourite the Lion. But here’s the thing, Kids from Liverpool just don’t go to Africa, a weekend at Butlins, day trips to Wales maybe, but Africa !!!!!

Mount Kilimanjaro from Stig Nygaard on FlickrThen I grew up and the world was just not so big. Dreams were suddenly possible. July/August 09 I took my daughter to Kenya and stood in awe before the majesty that was Kilimanjaro. Now I’m off to Tanzania to climb it.

I chose Cancer Research UK as my charity for many reasons, I lost my Mother to cancer as a child, my sisters had scares with cervical cancer and I had a scare with some polyps.  I’ve had friends and other family members affected by this nasty robbing thieving disease, but mostly I chose Cancer Research UK because teachers and support staff in my school Whitefield Primary School have been hit really hard by this disease in all of it’s horrible forms in recent years, but last year was the worst. I’m doing this climb for all the right reasons. I really want to see an end to this disease, not just for now, but for all time.

Here’s how things are, I have paid for the trip, £1,600, that is done. The price of the trip and the time are my contribution, everything raised goes to Cancer Research UK, there’s no hidden agenda’s, I’m not asking for a free trip to Africa to fulfill my dreams. I’m fulfilling my dreams and hopefully helping others along the way.

You can should you choose donate via this page, any donation no matter how small would be appreciated:

There will also be a Charity Night to be held at the STATIC GALLERY in ROSCOE LANE Liverpool on MARCH 20th. The night will be headlined by the brilliant THOMAS JOSEPH AND MURPHY hopefully supported by the wonderful ALUN PARRY . (Please check out their websites). On that night I’ll give the cash raised by sponsorship forms and the money raised on the night to the people from Cancer Research UK and we can have a good old knees up to thank you guys for your support. I do hope as many of you as can make it will turn up.

Together we can find a cure and beat this horrible disease.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

A really big thank you to Karen, Kerry, Tash and Shanny, Paul and Lucy at Static, Billy, TJ and Dave, Alun Parry, Phil at the Picket, Lucy at STA travel, and anyone else who has publicised my efforts.

We are a team and though I’m doing the Trek, I really couldn’t do it without your support. (Keep watching this space, more to follow)…..
