CakinCrazy Productions LiverpoolCELEBRITY SOUL SINGER HEATHER SMALL AND DAVID CAKES

UNITE TO HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR CANCER CHARITY

On Wednesday 9th December 2009 David Cakes unveiled his latest masterpiece to a select group of VIP visitors at Chester Cathedral. The six feet tall, larger than life, sugar sculpture of M-People star Heather Small was on display to a lucky group of guests who attended the Macmillan Cancer Support carol concert hosted by Smooth Radio presenter Steve Collins. Heather Small was delighted with the work of art and autographed her “own arm” whilst guests chatted with Heather and David about the creation.

Macmillan Cancer Support LogoDavid has been a strong supporter of Macmillan for over 25 years and has become more involved with the charity since his dad Roy was diagnosed with, and sadly died of, cancer in 2002. In addition to providing a cake for the annual Christmas raffle, David decided to do something completely different this year and created his greatest challenge to date. The sugar sculpture of Heather was completed in just 12 days and he was working just from a single photograph, having never previously met the star. The sculpture will be on display in the David Cakes of Distinction shop in Crosby for the foreseeable future whilst plans are finalised for promoting its prominence in order to raise money for Macmillan. The larger than life sculpture is believed to a world first to be created in sugar paste. Whilst many stars are immortalised in wax, Heather Small is now immortalised in sugar (although it would be perfectly possible to eat her!)

Editor’s note: A documentary covering the making of the sculpture right through to it being autographed by Heather Small was made by a group of students from Edge Hill University. Footage is available for viewing and possible broadcast. The sculpture is on display at David Cakes showroom, 187 College Road, Crosby, Liverpool L23 3AT. Tel 0151 931 3331.

DJs, MUSICIANS & SINGERS WANTED TO HELP RAISE £1m FOR CHARITY

Liverpool cake artist David MacCarfrae is usually seen creating masterpieces out of icing at his shop David Cakes of Distinction in College Road, Crosby. However, now David who has formed David Cakes Productions Ltd, has come up with a mammoth challenge to raise £1 Million for the charity ‘We are Macmillan Cancer Support’ with which he is appealing for help from DJs and Musicians to create an online charity fund raising album.

“Music has always been a passion for me as I am sure it is for others and now I want to bring together everyone’s love of music to help raise much needed funds to support the wonderful work of Macmillan Nurses.”

Although David Cakes had supported Macmillan for 25 years, like many people, he wasn’t fully aware of the impact this vital support has until it’s needed. It was in 2002 that his dad, Roy, was diagnosed with cancer and sadly died on April 29th of that year. Roy fully supported David, who always thought his Dad would live to see the musical dream become a reality. Having composed the title track, Forever Free, David donates all royalties of this music to Macmillan.

This new project will give budding as well as established musicians and DJs the opportunity to record their own version of Forever Free. “The more mixes, from different genres, the better from Opera to Rock, from String quartet to Club mixes, everyone and anyone can participate for free  all that you need to submit a is a mp3 recording of your version of Forever Free’
All the tracks will then be made available for download.
David feels that this project is his, and may also be other peoples, way of making a tribute their loved ones. “

“This is a fantastic opportunity to unite music lovers of all tastes whilst doing what they love best”,”said David.

When David composed Forever Free, he was looking for a female artist to sing it and Claire Lomax who was 19 at the time, sang the song live at Liverpool’s Matthew Street Festival in August 2002. Two versions of the single were recorded and produced by David and Billy Kinsley (Liverpool Express/ The Merseybeats) had its first play on BBC Radio Merseyside in April 2003 when David and Claire were interviewed by Roger Phillips.

Ironically in 2008 Claire herself was diagnosed with cancer and at one stage we thought we would lose her recalls David. Claire’s illness was the deciding factor to really motivate this project which Claire, who is now fortunately in remission, fully supports along with ‘We are Macmillan Cancer Support’ Versions of Forever Free are available to listen to on YouTube via the link: Forever Free
