The Tafts LiverpoolThe Tafts – Live at the Citadel

Support Act: Charli Taft

Saturday 13th March, 8.00pm – The Citadel, St Helens.

The Tafts, Merseyside’s highly acclaimed family folk band, play their debut concert at The Citadel in St Helens on Saturday 13th March, for one night only.

A multi-talented family of musicians, The Tafts will play a collection of original songs based on personal true experiences of characters, relationships and real world events. They looked no further for their inspiration than their home town of Liverpool, which is the backdrop for much of their material. The Tafts are all highly renowned and experienced musicians in their own right.

Lead singer and principle songwriter Anne Taft has worked with many local artists over the years, most notably are the high profile and highly acclaimed 2009 concert performances with guitar virtuoso Neil Campbell in ‘Ghost Stories – a Night Opera’ at St. Luke’s Church and also ‘Frankenstein’ at St. George’s Concert Room.  Anne was also special guest at Neil’s sell-out solo concerts at the Unity Theatre in February this year.

Husband Paul Taft plays guitars and vocals and is responsible for many of the band’s musical arrangements, brother David Taft is the bassist with the band but also adds his unique style of songwriting born out of his passion for local folk-lore and the natural environment while drummer and percussionist Shaun Taft enjoys mixing world music flavours to the performances by introducing ethnic instruments and interesting rhythmic features.  Two honorary Tafts are the hugely talented young pianist Christine Horton and versatile instrumentalist Tom Sykes, who play everything from fiddle to mandolin and synth to harmonica and also provide backing vocals.

Lead singer Anne Taft said “We have wanted to play The Citadel for several years and are thrilled to have this opportunity to bring our music to the St. Helens audience. We’ll be playing an original set featuring many of our old favorites, but we will also be playing some new songs and there will be a few surprises”.

The Tafts are renowned for their unique blend of lush vocal harmonies, soaring vocals and beautifully crafted songs, their musical arrangements are influenced by many artists and composers including James Taylor, Steely Dan, The Eagles, Pat Metheny, Kate Rusby and even Claude Debussy.

Support for the event will be provided by Anne and Paul’s daughter Charli Taft, who is a uniquely talented up and coming singer-songwriter in her own right, her writing has been compared to Carole King’s and her voice to a young Joni Mitchell.

Don’t miss this wonderful evening of huge talented musicians.
