The godfathers, the first Hip Hop superstars and one of Hip Hop’s most revered icons attained superstardom with the first and biggest Hip Hop hit record of all time “Rappers Delight” (celebrating over 30 years!!!!) The legends are back in Europe for what should be one of this year’s top tours!

The SUGAR HILL GANG’s brand new stage show will feature hit after hit spanning the group’s entire career, belting out the chart topping classic “Rappers Delight” and the latest hit record “La La Song”, with a stunning live show featuring each band member on instruments and the incredible singer Rob Temple (the very first recording artist on Jive Records!!!), new songs from the new album!! incl. a crowd-pleasing Michael Jackson tribute and much more!!

The SUGAR HILL GANG’s Wonder Mike, Master Gee and Big Bank Hank (now replaced by Hen Dog) scored the first and most popular Hip Hop single of all time in 1979: “Rappers Delight” !!

It single-handedly influenced and inspired the Rap and Hip-Hop movements, opening the doors to one of the most powerful and popular styles of popular music EVER. “Rappers Delight” was the first Rap song to be played on the radio & TV, exposing millions of people to a new and exciting style of music which originated in the Bronx, becoming one of the biggest hits in music history. It sold 60 000 units daily in 1979 and with over 8 million units sold the Sugar Hill Gang scored the biggest selling single of all time. This truly revolutionary release is still selling today and remains a timeless party anthem.

Support comes from Liverpool’s finest hip hop boys: The Elementals and Nicky Talent & Innuendo who won the Masque’s competition to support the legendary Sugar Hill Gang. The night will also feature DJ sets from Santero as well as a special appearance from PeteBox. This will make for a hip hop night to remember.

Liverpool Sound City live line-up is the best ever with Paloma Faith, Ian McCulloch, Delphic, The Maccabees, The Fall, Tinchy Stryder, Wild Beasts, Field Music, Los Campesinos!, The Blackout, Wave Machines, The Sunshine Underground, Hot Club de Paris, Beth Jeans Houghton, Archie Bronson Outfit, Ian McNabb and British Sea Power to name but a few all playing this week.

However it’s so much more than live music, also programmed are movie premieres, photography exhibitions, Q & A sessions, football tournaments and over 60 speakers take part in the festival’s biggest music business conference which takes places at the Hilton and Hard Day’s Night hotels, which includes the legendary Seymour Stein in conversation with Ian McCulloch of Echo and the Bunnymen, a rare opportunity to ask Mac the Mouth all those questions you always wanted to.

It all kicks off the night preceding the festival with an evening dedicated to hip hop culture.

The bike ride will begin on Sunday 30 May 2010 from between 8am to 10am at Salford Watersports Centre at the Quays where riders will follow a flat, mostly traffic free route through Manchester via Old Trafford and Stretford, and join the Trans-Pennine Trail, riding approximately 39 miles through to Otterspool Park in Liverpool.

If you live in Liverpool, a coach service will run once in the morning from Liverpool to Manchester, leaving at 7am, to take riders to the start and then at intervals throughout the afternoon to take riders back to Manchester after the ride.
