Each year HMRC collects approximately £7.6 billion in overpaid tax. This means that there are hundreds and thousands of people in the UK who are paying excess tax. Arthur’s Day will be celebrated in Liverpool to honour the man, Arthur Guinness, who in 1759 signed a 9000-year lease on St James’s Gate Brewery in Dublin marking the beginning for the iconic black stuff.

Guinness is hosting worldwide celebrations.

Many celebrities, including Jerry Hall, Sophie Dahl and Sir Bob Geldof, will be involved in raising their Guiness glasses to Arthur at 17.59.

A Global music gig on Arthur’s Day, 24th September 2009, will include the likes of Kasabian, Razorlight, & The Kooks who will be joined by over 60 music acts performing in studio gigs across Dublin and around the world in places including New York, Lagos, Yaoundé and Kuala Lumpur.

You can watch the Dublin gig and join in the celebrations by heading to pubs across the UK that are hosting Arthur’s Day parties and broadcasting the Arthur’s Day gig live from 17:59 on Sky Pub TV channel 881.

Arthur’s Day marks the establishment of the new Arthur Guinness Fund, with Guinness donating 5 million Euros, which will help people gain skills to use within their own communities.

Liverpool’s Food and Drink Festival celebrates its second year and launches this Sunday.

Monday 14th September is £15 per head day with offers on at restaurants across Liverpool giving the rare opportunity to try some of the top restaurants in Liverpool on an affordable budget. Restaurants involved include Spire, Il Forno, The London Carriage Works, Pan Am, Delifonesca to name just a few.

“We were delighted to be asked to work with Smirnoff Flavours.  This is the first time we have been asked to design and produce a project of this scale.  The challenge to present such unique large sculptures in five city centres, at the same time and on the same day is wonderful.”

Weighing an impressive 3 ½ tonnes, the sculpture will take 4 men approximately 5 hours to construct and carve from the time the blocks arrive on site.  Once completed, they will be on show day and night, until the ice melts and the monuments disappear.
